The
New Mexico Behavioral Health Research and Evaluation Network (REN) is a
division of the Consortium for Behavioral Health Training and Research (CBHTR). CBHTR is a virtual consortium of educators and researchers in New
Mexico institutions of higher education that works with the New Mexico
Behavioral Health Collaborative (NM-BHC) to improve behavioral health though
research, workforce development, education and training. The CBHTR-REN
is being developed by behavioral health researchers and evaluators in New
Mexico institutions of higher education, private research centers, governmental
agencies, research foundations and provider research organizations working in
collaboration with the NM-BHC. Among the
various kinds of goals proposed for the REN are partnering with the NM-BHC to:- Develop
networking capacity among behavioral health researchers across New
Mexico. To further this goal, a survey of researchers is nearing
completion and a Directory of New Mexico Behavioral Health Services and Evaluation Researchers will be posted on this site in June, 2009.
- Expand
behavioral health care research and evaluation capacity in New Mexico
by seeking grant funding and support from multiple sources including
federal agencies and private sector foundations for high priority
research and evaluation goals. For example, cross-institutional grants
might be submitted to conduct research or to evaluate.
- Develop
evaluation and research infrastructure by increasing the number of
experienced behavioral health sciences and evaluation researchers in
New Mexico.
- Work with NM-BHC to prioritize its research needs and goals.
- Provide
technical support for NM-BHC evaluation and coordination of research
proposals by academic or other researchers to study the BHC's
restructuring of New Mexico behavioral health care and its efforts to
improve services, implement evidence based practices or related topics.
The
REN is being chaired by: Drs. Deborah Altschul (daltschul@salud.unm.edu), Betty
Downes (betty.downes@state.nm),
and Richard Hough (rlhough@aol.com). Dr. Julie G. Salvador is serving as the REN
Coordinator; any questions and inquiries should be directed to jgsalvador@salud.unm.edu.
